Oahu 2011

If you can't tell, and have never been on this blog, or if this is your first look into my work, this body of work, all shot on my family vacation, is what my work is all about. This is all personal work, but this is no different in approach, look, or feel than my professional work. It is all the same to me, and I strive to make it the same.

You've told the story of Oahu perfectly. I know it well and you've painted such a gorgeous look at its beauty and reality.

aaah, you just made my heart ache for hawaii. "i want to go to there." i'm a fan of kauai, since i spent most of my time there as a botanical intern, but hawaii as a whole is magic. beautiful, beautiful shots.

I would have thought I would be used to how you inspire me to see beauty in everyday things, but this post opened my eyes again.

Whether you're taking a photo of garbage or anything to a bride on her wedding day, it's always amazing to look at!

Love looking through your photos, Jonathan. You show relationships in a way I rarely see. These are beautiful.

I've never been to Hawaii - but even if I hadn't wanted to go before, now I know that it's a place I'll have to visit one day.
Thank you for sharing the beautiful sights you encountered and took the time to capture! The images of the sea particularly make me ache for the beach and this beautiful part of the world.

My dad was stationed on Oahu while he was a Marine, so when he married my mom and they started having kids, we went there every year on vacation. He had a not too awesome time growing up, then he enlisted when he was 18 and was sent to Vietnam. After that was over he was stationed in Hawaii. It was the first place that he was ever genuinely happy and at peace, so I have a big place in my heart for those islands and those people.

These pictures bring me pure joy. This is the Hawaii that I love. My dad would take us on these long drives all around the coast and through the jungles. I remember talking to Mr. Matsumoto every summer, Dole whips at the Dole plantation and running through those rows and rows of pineapples, roadside fruit stands, toads at the beach, Waimea falls, not wearing shoes...It's a good place to be, and I hope it can stay that way.

Sorry to go on and on, I just love these photos and the memories they bring back.

Oh this takes me back, such beauty and feeling. I loved it when I could just go and see for myself what I could find. There is this one food stand along the way to North Shore that I loved stopping at, as they were run by women from your father's homeland and they made the best Saba that I have ever eaten. Even if she had closed down the stand and I showed up, she would make some for me.
