Let's get geeky

So, I've been shooting a lot of commercial work lately for Talisker. Most of the events I shoot are up at a certain building with really, really low lighting situations. I travel light (not a lot of gear - at least in my opinion). So, making the interior look like daylight is a bit tricky since the ceilings are really high and dark due to the fact its made of really dark wood. Well, I've been playing with my pocket wizards so I can use multiple lights (usually 2). Let's get geeky as I break down what I did...

This shot was used 2 lights.

The first light, a Nikon SB800, is on a stroboframe connected to my Nikon F5 with a 50mm 1.4 lens and the flash head is pointed straight up and has a Lightsphere (GASP!!!) with a ChromeDome attached to it. The angle of coverage for the flash is set to 17mm. It is on TTL dailed down -.7.

The second light, a Nikon SB-80DX, is being held by my assistant, who is standing opposite of me and holding the flash straight above his head and pointed down towards the subject. The flash is triggered by another pocket wizard connected to the flash. It is on Manual (M) mode and is 1 stop hotter than whatever f/stop I am at (f/2 if I shot f/1.4 or f/2.8 if I shot f/2) and is pointed directly at the subject. The angle of coverage is 50mm. He then dials in the distance he is from the object we are shooting on the flash.

This is shot on Fuji 400H and scanned on our Fuji Frontier SP2500. There is no photoshop/actions/post-production to this shot. This is the straight scan. I love film. Viola, you get shots like this.

If that was not geeky enough for you, I got nothing left.

Yup, pretty geeky. Does that mean I am a geek since I understood it? Oi.
